Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) Report

Let me quote Mr. Ellington directly from the cover up/excuse letter of early September:

"In May of 2008, Council created a committee-made up of vocal critics of the income tax--to examine the Village financial records and to assist Council in uncovering ways to avoid the imposition of an income tax."

Hmmmm... If I understand English the above means that Council created a committee to examine the Village financial records and to assist Council in uncovering ways to avoid the imposition of an income tax. Maybe I didn't read it correctly, I'll try again.

Well it still says what I thought it says, and it came straight from their own mouths.

Well fellow Amelians the CAC members did an outstanding job in examining the Village financial records and came up with many recommendations that clearly pointed at avoiding the imposition of an income tax. Read it for yourselves by clicking this line.

As you can see the committee must have spent many thankless hours doing the research and having meetings and discussions, finally arriving at the recommendations contained in the report. These recommendations all seemed appropriate to me.

Keep in mind folks that both Mr. Ellington and Mr. Menz have stated to the media and to us through these letters that the primary need for the imposition of this income tax is to pay for the expiring Rumpke contract. They never bothered to mention that the contract could have easily been put on another levy that would undoubtedly passed. You just know that there was/is some other reason for imposing the income tax and it had nothing to do with the Rumpke contract. By their own actions and words we know this!

The date of the report was July 2nd, 2008. Now in September Mr. Ellington in the cover up/excuse letter states and I quote " The committee found no source of additional revenue and instead recommended that Council could avoid the imposition of an income tax by reducing services such as zoning enforcement, special events, police protection, and recreation."

Wait a minute! Did I get it right? In Mr. Ellington's own words and I quote again: "In May of 2008, Council created a committee-made up of vocal critics of the income tax--to examine the Village financial records and to assist Council in uncovering ways to avoid the imposition of an income tax."

Mr. Ellington goes on to say and I quote: "Because Council has never heard from Amelia residents that they wished to reduce the services targeted by the committee, Council - continued its evaluation of the income tax after the committee provided its report."

That statement is one of the most sorry excuses I have ever heard in my entire professional life! Sorry isn't the word for it! More like pathetic, rediculous, without merit, utter nonesense, a bold face lie, et al, Sometimes I can't believe what I'm reading! Where in the world do they think the members of the CAC came from? Mars? Of course they heard from Amelia residents, the CAC members are Amelia residents as well as all those people who signed the petition to put the tax on the ballot in the first place! Hundreds! Mr. Ellington and company choose to ignore the CAC report because it would be the first step in demolishing their pipe dreams and reducing their excessive salaries! Perhaps they are finally realizing what a ramification is!

I'm guessing that the CAC folks didn't get a dime for all the hours spent for this excellent work and that we Amelians own them a debt of gratitude for their efforts in our behalf.

THANKS CAC MEMBERS!
