Request For Retraction, Amelia might disappear, Sunday, August 10, 2008, By Barrett J. Brunsman

This is the email request made Wed 9/24/08 3:01 PM

Dear Sir:

You have a difficult job. I realize that for the most part you simply print what people that you interview tell you. In your article dated August 10th, 2008 you state and I quote:

"Amelia also has long-term contracts for waste collection by Rumpke and fire protection provided by Union Township", Menz said.

I believe that you need to make sure that people know that Amelia does not have a long-term contact for waste collection by Rumpke. Ordinance O-2007-86,(see attachment) passed on November 5, 2007 is a 1 year contract ending on December 31st, 2008. The mayor, Leroy Ellington and the administrator Mark Menz have both stated this to you as well as other newspapers.

They have also used it to threaten the residents of Amelia by putting it in a letter erroneously or more likely on purpose titled "RAMIFICATIONS OF DISSOLVING AMELIA" dated August 11TH, 2008. In this letter and I quote

"#1. $200,000.00 per year for 3 years to pay for the existing Waste Collection contract with Rumpke."

As you can plainly see they have no problems telling lies to we Amelia residents either.

I would urge you to see for yourself and set the record straight by retracting the element of this sentence that is an obvious lie. The people of Amelia are having a hard enough time telling the truth from the falsehoods being presented to them by the mayor, the administrator and the council.

Thank you for your kind consideration. This request will be posted on our saveamelia.org web site. I will post your response if and when received.

Again, thanks.

John Michael Toren
43 year resident of "Old Amelia"
